Arachnophobes might want to skip this post. Friedrich van Schoor, a German freelance designer who specializes in 3D and motion fields, created a truly terrifying (and awesome) video mapping installation, entitled Spider Projection, in which two enormous spiders appear to scuttle about inside a room on the top floor of a glass-front home. They look so big and solid, it’s enough to give anyone the willies.
Check out this short making-of and finished product video in which Friedrich explains his design process, and during which the viewer realizes the artist actually built a scale model of the projection space, enclosing a live spider within the structure, drawing the form of the installation from the creature’s rapid movement. Then, if that’s not enough creepy-crawly action for you, check out this lighting test video. That’s one busy little spider.

I had a nightmare last week about my house being filled with giant spiders. It pretty much looked like this.
